2 Chronicles 20:12 - "... We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you."

This was mine and Jess' prayer after we knew God was asking us to leave our previous ministry without knowing what "next" was. We continued to pray it until He led us to where we are now and we hold onto those confirmations that we are where HE led us to every single day.

Thanks for posting, Kevin!

Comment on Where Are You Cheating? by Josh Rhone

Kevin,

I understand the point that Stanley is trying to convey and I truly believe that there is some value in "cheating."

That said, in some ways I find myself really struggling with the whole concept. For example, would we be having this conversation if we recovered the idea of vocation, instead of focusing so much on careerism? In saying this, I am thinking about a statement made in the book "Trolls and Truth," in which the author claims that in the church we teach our kids very little about vocation, yet we are constantly asking them what they want to become when they grow up. It is the author's belief that because kids are programed to think in terms of career, they get a job, work hard to succeed, and have very little time to do what it is that God has uniquely created and wired them for.

Secondly, I think that it is a difficult conversation for me because it seems as if in Scripture we are not commanded to "cheat," instead we are to follow Jesus with radical, unswerving commitment and obedience. I guess what I am saying is that I am concerned that the idea of cheating, as set forth by Stanley, falls short of ultimately submitting every facet and aspect of one's life to the Lordship of Christ.

Kevin, these are just some initial thoughts and reactions, not necessarily to your post, but to what I have encountered in Andy Stanley's book. They may be correct, or they may be off base. However, they are some things that I have found myself wrestling with since reading the book.

Blessings!

I think most people already take this approach and don't even know it. They over think and do too much then. That's when it becomes so unnatural. If we are just ourselves God simply speaks through us. It really quite amazing.
