Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!

This past Sunday in Fuel we had one of the most powerful, celebrative and personal Easter Services I have ever been a part of in my lifetime. From the moment each student walked in the room, the cross was the focus of everyones attention as it was positioned in the center of the room with chairs all around it (see photos below). The service began with a worship song, followed by the house lights dimming down to set the tone of what it was like on Easter weekend 2000 years ago. With the use of dramatic lighting on the cross and the editing of the soundtrack of the Passion of The Christ combined with the TNIV dramatized bible, it was as though each participant was taken back in time to hear the scripture and feel the emotions as they felt what it was like on that first Easter Sunday. With the exchange of scripture and music, we celebrated the life, death and resurrection of Christ.

Everything led up to Paul sharing from his perspective what Easter was really all about to him personally. We then encouraged students to take time to thank Jesus for what He had done for us by writing Thank You notes at one of four stations surrounding the chairs. Then students were encouraged to place their Thank You notes at the foot of the cross and take communion (see pictures below). We closed this time of worship by praying together. It was a real and powerful way to personally celebrate our graditude and thanksgiving to Jesus on this Easter.

Trevor and the worship team did and incredible job leading us to a celebrative time of worship throughout the gathering (using ‘Use Somebody’ by Kings of Leon, combined with Rise and Sing from Steve Fee, to transition into ‘Here Is Our King’ by David Crowder Band). We wrapped up the time playing Rob Bell’s latest video project called ‘Resurrection’, explaining how the resurrection was not just a one time event, but is still being fulfilled today (see below).

It was a great Easter weekend and gathering to celebrate the death/resurrection of Jesus that I will never forget. Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

About Kevin Beers

wanna see what I'm up to - twitter.com/kevinbeers Why do I blog? - Because I love my church but can’t personally connect to everyone who calls me ‘pastor’. The people and students at WCH/The Hub deserve everything I’ve got. This is one more way to give it. - Because ministry, life and leadership are better when learning is shared. - Because I’d rather offer my journey than just give my conclusions. - Because I need to practice being generous, not just with my money, but with my heart, too. - Because the Church/Kingdom/World is better when many voices are shaping the conversation it is having.
