2009: New Years Resolutions

New

It’s 2009 – Happy New Year!!!

Becky and I have a New Years Eve tradition that includes Christmas stockings, sealed note cards and sparkling grape juice.  As long as we’ve been married (4 yrs now), on New Years Eve, we write down predictions of how we think the next year will unfold, and place them into our stocking in a sealed envelop with “Do Not Open Until New Years Eve 200…” written in bold letters.  So, an hour before the coming new year unfolds, we each open up our sealed envelops from the year before and read allow for the first time to each other our predictions of the year past as we reflect and thank God in prayer.  It is always a blast to see where “actuality meets predictability.”  There are instances were the two do collide.

This tradition spurred on an interesting conversation the next day.  My wife made a statement similar to this – “New Years Resolutions are a little weird for followers of Christ (Christians).  Shouldn’t we daily be setting goals and trying to become more and more like Christ with our lives?”

What an awesome way to put it!  As followers of Christ, every day of our lives should consist of resolutions, action steps and accountability to see our lives constantly being transformed more and more into the image and model of Christ.  Each day we should be setting new standards and new goals to better ourselves and live life the way the God intended.  May you have a great 2009 and may each day be better than the day before.

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us…” – Ephesians 5:1-2

About Kevin Beers

wanna see what I'm up to - twitter.com/kevinbeers Why do I blog? - Because I love my church but can’t personally connect to everyone who calls me ‘pastor’. The people and students at WCH/The Hub deserve everything I’ve got. This is one more way to give it. - Because ministry, life and leadership are better when learning is shared. - Because I’d rather offer my journey than just give my conclusions. - Because I need to practice being generous, not just with my money, but with my heart, too. - Because the Church/Kingdom/World is better when many voices are shaping the conversation it is having.
